Today I’m sharing a playful birthday card that combines soft rainbow watercolors, bold black accents, and one super cute pink dinosaur ready to party!

Want to see this card come together step-by-step? You can watch the full video tutorial now on my YouTube channel!

šŸ–Œ The Background

I started by stamping several birthday-themed images—like confetti poppers and "HBD" circles—from Pajama Crafter Stamps' "Prehistoric Birthday" onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock. I heat embossed them using white embossing powder to create a subtle, textured background.

Then, using the emboss resist technique, I watercolored a soft rainbow over the panel with Distress Inks. Beginning at the top left cornerĀ and working diagonally to the bottom right, the embossed designs resisted the ink and stayed bright white, peeking through the colorful blend.

āœ‚ļø The Layout

To add interest and a playful layout:

  • I used a card layout die from my stash to cut the background in half on a diagonal.

  • I die cut a stitched circleĀ and a scalloped borderĀ from white cardstock.

  • I adhered the scalloped border along the diagonal cut line to cleanly separate the two panels.

šŸ¦• The Dino & Sentiment

The adorable pink dinosaur (also from "Prehistoric Birthday) is holding a cake and wearing a party hat—ready to celebrate! I stamped and cut him out using my Brother ScanNCutĀ and colored him with COPIC markers to coordinate with the pastel background.

The sentiment combines two PCS stamp sets ("Mix & Match Celebration Sentiments" and "Prehistoric Birthday") to create one sentiment: ā€œBig Birthday Wishesā€Ā and ā€œOn Your Birthdayā€, which I stamped onto the stitched circle before popping it up with foam tape.

The dino is also adhered with foam tape for extra dimension.

šŸŽ‰ Final Touches

To finish off the design, I added black matte enamel dotsĀ for contrast and visual balance. They pop beautifully against the soft rainbow background and tie everything together.

This card is perfect for all ages and would make anyone smile on their special day. Bright, whimsical, and full of party vibes—just how a birthday card should be!

Let me know in the comments—have you tried the emboss resist technique? šŸ’¬šŸ‘‡
