Sometimes the simplest cards are the most satisfying—especially when they come together quickly and still feel polished and intentional. This koala Valentine is a great example of how you can mix a few favorite techniques and products to create something heartfelt without overthinking the process.

For today’s card, I leaned into contrast, texture, and soft color to let the design do the work.

Project Overview
This Valentine card features the adorable koalas from the Koality Time stamp set paired with one of the Sweethearts DuoFoil Card Panels from Brutus Monroe. While these panels are designed for foiling, I chose to skip that step and embrace the bold black elements mixed with soft pinks instead. The result is a clean, modern Valentine that still feels playful and warm.
How This Card Came Together
I started by trimming down the 4th panel from the Sweethearts DuoFoil Card Panels and then die cutting it to size. Even though this panel can be foiled, I loved how the black details looked against the pink heart, so I decided to leave it unfoiled.
To add interest and softness, I mixed Brutus Monroe Aqua Pigments in red, white, and pearl to create a custom pearlescent pink. Once I was happy with the color, I splattered it across the panel, followed by black splatters for contrast and a bit of playful texture. After letting the panel dry completely, I mounted it onto black cardstock to create a crisp, bold border.
Next, I stamped and die cut the koala image and sentiment from the Koality Time stamp set. I colored the koalas with COPIC markers, keeping the shading soft and neutral so they stood out against the pink heart without overpowering the background.
To finish the card, I adhered the koalas right in the center of the heart and placed the sentiment just below. The layout is simple and balanced, letting the images and textures shine.

Final Thoughts
This card is a great reminder that you don’t need a complicated design to make something special. By skipping the foiling, mixing custom colors, and keeping the layout clean, this project comes together quickly—perfect for last-minute Valentines or batch cardmaking.
