There’s something extra special about cards that feel like they’re telling a little story—and this Valentine card featuring Theodore is full of charm, heart, and just a touch of bravery. With his shy smile and heart held tight, Theodore looks like he’s gathered all his courage to deliver the sweetest Valentine surprise.

This card combines cozy textures, playful dimension, and soft coloring to create a warm, storybook-style scene that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day or anyone who loves handmade cards with character.

Project Overview

For this design, I built a layered background using patterned papers and chipboard elements from Brutus Monroe, then brought the scene to life with Valentine Theodore front and center. The kissing booth creates the perfect backdrop for this heartfelt moment, while glitter accents and heat embossing add just the right amount of sparkle.

How This Card Came Together

I began by cutting a card panel from the Sweethearts DuoFoil Sheet then trimmed down Alabaster cardstock to create slim framing panels along the left and right sides. This simple step adds contrast and helps draw the eye inward toward the focal scene.

Next, I cut the brown heart patterned paper from the Gentle Love Patterned Paper Pad and adhered it directly to my card base. I layered the framed card panel on top, instantly giving the background depth and a cozy Valentine feel.

To build the scene, I popped out the kissing booth and flag banner from the Kissing Booth chipboard pieces. I adhered the banner to the middle of the booth, then die cut a heart from Bubblegum Glitterstock and popped it up over the heart detail on the booth for extra sparkle and dimension.

Now for the star of the card—Valentine Theodore. I die cut and stamped Theodore from Theodore’s Valentine along with the spool of thread from Theodore’s Cushion, then colored them with COPIC markers using warm, soft tones to match his gentle personality. Standing on the spool gives Theodore a little boost, making it look like he’s stretching just a bit higher to present his heart. I popped him up in front of the kissing booth to really emphasize that storybook moment.

To finish the scene, I heat embossed the sentiment “My Heart Belongs to You” at the top of the kissing booth, tying the entire design together. The completed panel was then adhered to a top-folding A2 card base.

Final Thoughts

This card is a perfect example of how adding a character—and giving them a “job” or purpose—can instantly elevate a design. Theodore isn’t just cute; he’s telling a story of courage, love, and a very important Valentine delivery. It’s these small storytelling details that make handmade cards feel extra meaningful.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope this project inspires you to add a little storytelling to your next card—and maybe let one of your critters steal the spotlight too.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy crafting :)
