Thanks for Being My Best Friend – Cat & Dog Card | Featuring Pajama Crafter Stamps

  • Jul 8

Today, I’m sharing a sweet card that celebrates our furry friends—and the humans who love them! I created this design using last month's sketch challenge from Pajama Crafter Stamps, combining playful stamped images, a bold color palette, and classic patterns for a fun, heartfelt look.

Let’s take a closer look at how it all came together:

🐾 Supplies Used

✂️ How I Made It

  1. Prepare the Cardstock Layers

    • Cut red cardstock to 5.5" x 4.25”.

    • Cut black cardstock to 5.5" x 2”.

    • Die cut a large heart from black and white polka dot paper.

  2. Stamp and Mask the Images

    • On white cardstock, stamp the cat image first.

    • Create a mask by stamping the cat onto masking paper and trimming it out.

    • Cover the stamped cat with the mask.

    • Line up and stamp the dog image so it appears seamlessly next to the cat.

    • Remove the mask to reveal the two critters perfectly side by side.

  3. Color the Images

    • Use Copic markers to color the cat and dog in soft shades of grey.

    • Add a pop of red to the dog’s collar to coordinate with the red panel.

    • Use the Brother Scan N Cut to cut out the finished image.

  4. Create a Tone-on-Tone Background

    • On the red cardstock panel, stamp small accessory images—like a fish, bone, mouse, and pawprints—using embossing ink.

    • This creates a subtle pattern that adds interest without overpowering the focal point.

  5. Prepare the Sentiment Strip

    • Stamp the sentiment “Thanks for being my best friend” onto the left side of the black cardstock strip.

    • Heat emboss it with white embossing powder for crisp contrast.

  6. Assemble the Card Base

    • Adhere the red panel to a top-folding A2 white card base (5.5” x 8.5” scored at 4.25” on the long side).

    • Adhere the black sentiment strip about 0.5" – 0.75” up from the bottom edge of the card.

  7. Add Dimension and Finishing Touches

    • Pop up the heart die cut on the right side of the black strip using foam adhesive.

    • Finally, adhere the colored cat and dog image centered on top of the heart with additional foam tape for extra dimension.

🐶🐱 Final Thoughts

I love how this design turned out—it’s clean and bold but still playful. The masking technique really helps the cat and dog look like one cohesive illustration, and the little red accents tie everything together.
