Believe in Magical Things – A Lavinia Fairy Card for Del Bello’s Designs

There’s just something about fairies that brings out the magic in cardmaking. For today’s Del Bello’s Designs project, I created an enchanting silhouette scene using Lavinia Stamps, layered ink blending, and dreamy stamped details. This one feels straight out of a storybook—and I loved every second of bringing it to life.

The focal point of this card is a stunning silhouette stamp featuring a young girl reaching out to a delicate fairy. I framed this magical moment with glowing ink blending, whimsical background text, and detailed tree branches to set the scene. The soft colors and layered elements give the whole design an ethereal, fairytale feel.

Supplies Used:

  • Lavinia Stamps:

    • Tree of Hope by Lavinia Stamps

    • Tree of Courage by Lavinia Stamps

    • Fairy Wish by Lavinia Stamps

    • See a Fairy Make a Wish by Lavinia Stamps

  • Journaling Stickers, Sentiments 6 by Lavinia Stamps

  • Mysticals Mica Mist Spray by Lavinia Stamps

    • Golden Temple

    • Spring Moss

  • Versafine Clair Ink Pads

    • VersaFine Clair Ink Pad, Nocturne by Tsukineko

    • VersaFine Clair Ink Pad, Morning Mist by Tsukineko

  • Distress Oxides:

    • Squeezed Lemonade

    • Salvaged Patina

    • Peacock Feathers

  • Posca Pens:

    • White

    • Yellow

  • Black cardstock (for matting)

  • White A2 top-folding card base

  • Circle stencil (positive and negative)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Ink Blend the Background:

Starting with Squeezed Lemonade in the center, I worked outward with Salvaged Patina and then Peacock Feathers toward the edges. I kept the lightest area right behind the fairy to give it that ethereal glow.

  2. Add Background Texture:

I lightly stamped the background text in gray using second generation stamping to create a soft layer of interest that looks like a whispered fairy tale in the distance.

  3. Silhouette Stamping:

I used Versafine Clair Nocturne to stamp the girl, fairy and vine silhouette in the center. I stamped the trees along the sides with gray ink and the grass border along the bottom with black ink.

  4. Add a Touch of Glitter:

To give the fairy a magical shimmer, I traced her wings with a Quickie Glue Pen and sprinkled Mermaid Blue glitter on top. It’s a subtle detail, but it really catches the light and brings the wings to life.

  5. Splatter for Magic:

I used gold shimmer spray to add gold ink splatters across the scene to mimic sparkles or fairy dust.

  6. Sentiment Strips:

I finished the card by popping up the sentiment stickers “believe in” and “magical things” with foam tape in the upper right corner for balance, matting them with black cardstock.

  7. Final Assembly:

The completed panel was matted onto black cardstock and adhered to a standard A2 card base. The bold black border really helps frame the scene and tie together the silhouette stamping.

This was such a magical card to create, and I love how the fairy glow draws your attention to the center. It’s soft, dreamy, and filled with storybook charm—just the kind of project that reminds me why I love crafting scenes so much.
