A Nurturing Touch: Father’s Day Card with a Dreamy Nature Scene

Today I’m sharing a Father’s Day card that pairs a dreamy nature scene with a deeply meaningful message. I wanted this card to feel like a quiet tribute to all the ways dads nurture, care for, and grow their families. With earthy ink smooshing, silhouette stamping, and thoughtful finishing touches, this design is both rustic and magical.

This card features a fairy tale-style house nestled among trees, with a whimsical silhouette of a figure watering the earth—symbolizing the steady care of a father. I paired it with the sentiment “you’re enough,” and personalized it by adding “Dad” to the sentiment for Father’s Day. I finished it with rustic twine, bright white highlights, and glowing golden dots that resemble fireflies—bringing light and life to the scene.

• Hot Pressed Watercolour Card A4 by Lavinia Stamps (cut to 5.5" x 4.25")

• Distress Oxide Ink Pads (blend of earthy sky tones

  • Rustic Wilderness

  • Salty Ocean

  • Rusty Hinge

• Cobblestone Stencil

• White gel pen

• Yellow Posca Paint Pen

• Twine

• Ink smooshing tools (acetate, water spray bottle)

• Non-porous work surface

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Ink Smooshing:

   I created the background using the ink smooshing technique, blending soft blue, green, and yellow/orange tone to form a dreamy, moody background

   sky.

   
   

2. Stamping:

   The house, trees, and whimsical figure were stamped in deep black silhouette ink, layered to build depth and scene.

   
   

3. Stenciling:

   To anchor the scene and add realism, I stenciled gray ink using a cobblestone stencil from my stash, creating a walkway leading up to the house.

   
   

4. Sentiment

   I placed the sentiment “you’re enough” within the trees and added the word “Dad” underneath to personalize it for Father’s Day.

   
   

5. Details

   Using a white gel pen, I highlighted areas like the house, trees, and Bob to bring out subtle dimension. I also dotted the ground with yellow/gold accents to mimic glowing fireflies, magical sparks or orbs.

   
   

6. Finishing Touches

   I wrapped rustic twine around the side of the card to add texture and a natural element.

   
   

7. Inside Sentiment:

   Inside, I included this heartfelt written message: “Thank you for all the ways you nurture and care for our family. Your love helps us grow strong. Happy Father’s Day!”
