You & Me = The Best Mix Ever | Holographic Wobble Boombox Card

Let’s throw it back to the good old mixtape days with this bright and bold retro card—perfect for celebrating fun friendships, anniversaries, or just a shared love of music! I combined the playful patterns from Brutus Monroe with Taylored Expressions’ energetic sentiments and funky background stamp to bring this holographic boombox to life.

This card is bursting with colorful vibes and nostalgic charm. The star of the show is definitely that shiny, dimensional boombox, but it all started with the background—because a good mix needs a good backdrop!

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Choose Your Background:

I started with one of the bold, rainbow-filled sheets from the Bold Rainbow 6x6 Paper Pad by Brutus Monroe. The retro palette instantly brought me back to the '80s! To take it up a notch, I stamped the Mix Master Background Stamp by Taylored Expressions over the patterned paper, layering musical notes and doodles for that true mixtape energy. I die cut the panel using the Wonky Stitched Rectangle Die from Simon Says Stamp and adhered it to a black A2 card base for contrast.

  2. Create the Boombox:

Next came the focal point—a rainbow boombox! I used the Rainbow Boombox Die Set from Brutus Monroe, cutting the main structure from black cardstock. I then backed the cassette area with colorful strips of Taylored Expressions cardstock to keep that vibrant energy going. For extra flair, I die cut the cassette face and speaker accents from holographic cardstock, giving the entire piece a dazzling shine.

  3. Assemble & Adhere:

I pieced the boombox together and added it to the card using an action wobble—because what's more fun than a boombox that actually moves? I placed it at a playful angle across the bottom half of the card to really sell the retro stereo vibe.

  4. Add Sentiments:

The phrases “You & Me” and “Best Mix Ever” are from the Mini Strips – Mixtape set by Taylored Expressions. I used the coordinating die to cut them out and popped them up with foam tape across the top of the card. These sentiments pair perfectly with the nostalgic theme and tie the design together beautifully.

  5. Finishing Touches:

To complete the look, I added some white gel pen details to the boombox—just a few lines and dots here and there to give it that extra pop and a slightly three-dimensional feel.

Once everything was in place, I gave it one last check for balance and color. The holographic details shimmer against the rainbow background, the action wobble adds movement and fun, and the whole card just radiates joy.

This card makes me smile every time I look at it—between the color, the sparkle, and that undeniable throwback charm, it reminds me why I love cardmaking so much. Whether you give it to a friend, partner, or keep it as a cheerful display piece, it’s a great way to celebrate someone special who brings music to your life.
