Light-Up Magic: A Fairytale Castle Slider Pop-Up Card for the LFL & Pear Blossom Press Insta-Hop

Get ready to sparkle and shine! I’m thrilled to share my newest card for the Crafty Collaboration Instagram Hop with Love From Lizi and Pear Blossom Press! This project features the enchanting June Crystal Slipper Release from Love From Lizi and the amazing light-up technology from Pear Blossom Press. It’s an interactive fairytale come to life — complete with a glowing castle, a whimsical dragon, and a slider pop-up mechanism that adds even more magic!

This slimline card is packed with fantasy and fun. The star of the show is a vibrant pink die-cut castle from Love From Lizi’s new release, paired with a beautifully colored dragon. But the real wow-factor comes when you pull the slider — thanks to a slider pop-up design, a fairy appears above the castle, and the Pear Blossom Press lights bring the castle windows to life with a warm glow when you push the "press here" button. It’s a truly magical, interactive experience!

Supplies Used:

  • Love From Lizi “June Crystal Slipper Release”

  • Pear Blossom Press EZ-Light

  • Pear Blossom Press Stamp & Die Set

  • Slider Pop-Up Card Dies

    • Don't have the dies? (Get my Slimline Pop-up Slider Card How-To Guide HERE)

  • Distress Oxide Inks

    • Peacock Feathers

    • Picked Raspberry

    • Wilted Violet

    • Black Soot

  • Ink Blending Tools

  • Plum Punch Cardstock

  • Slimline Card Base (3.5" x 6")

  • Heat-embossing Supplies:

    • Heat Tool

    • White Embossing Powder

    • Clear Embossing Ink Pad

    • Powder Tool

    • Coffee Filter

  • Shimmer Spray

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Create the Background:

I began with 2.5 sheets of 8.5" x 11" Ranger Heavystock Cardstock and randomly applied Distress Oxide Inks in Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, and Wilted Violet to create a vibrant base layer. Next, I softly blended Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink over the top, allowing some of the bright colors to peek through for added depth and interest. Before adding the white splatters, I applied water splatters across the background — but instead of lifting the ink, I left the cool, organic effect they created. Finally, I splattered on white ink to mimic a starry night sky, setting the perfect dramatic backdrop for the castle scene.

  2. Build the Castle:

I die-cut the castle from hot pink patterned paper and backed it with one of my favorite cardstocks, Plum Punch from Taylored Expressions, to add contrast and dimension. I then carefully fussy-cut the castle from the Plum Punch layer, along with the three windows, which I removed to make space for the lights I’d be adding behind them.

  3. Add the Characters:

I adhered the dragon from the die cuts around the castle, and I fussy-cut them and used the slider pop-up mechanism to make the fairy rise above the castle when the tab is pulled, while the dragon remains near the castle.

  1. Build the Slider Pop-Up Mechanism

To create the slider pop-up mechanism, I used a set of slider pop-up dies I had on hand to cut the main components for the card. One die formed the pop-up element, while another created the slider piece that allows the interactive feature to move smoothly. For the card base, I trimmed a panel to 3.5" x 6" using my paper trimmer, making it the perfect slimline size. I then attached the pop-up mechanism to the slider piece and adhered the entire assembly onto the slimline panel using a border of doubled-up foam tape. This not only gave the slider enough room to operate but also created the perfect space to tuck in my fairy die cut.

  2. Install the Lights:

I used the Pear Blossom Press EZ-Light set to illuminate the castle windows. The mechanism is hidden behind the castle, with the “press here” button and pull tab at the bottom of the card, making it super easy and interactive.

  3. Final Touches:

Heat-embossed sentiments and a cute little frog complete the scene, with the “You deserve royal treatment” sentiment tying in perfectly with the fairytale theme. To finish everything off, I added straight gold pinstripe stickers for a touch of elegance and mini twinkle pink holographic peel-off stickers to bring in extra sparkle and make the entire design shine.

Why I Love This Card:

Interactive cards always bring extra joy — not only when you create them but also when you watch someone’s face light up as they discover the hidden feature! This slider pop-up card combined with Love From Lizi’s whimsical designs and Pear Blossom Press’s lights took this project to the next level, making it an absolute showstopper.
