Lawn Fawn Jump for Joy & Cheery Christmas | Happy Birthday Card

Sunday, September 4, 2016

Ohmygosh -- I can't express how much I love Lawn Fawn stamps and how they all just WORK together! It's my husband's birthday, and wanting to play with these little critters and the Leafy Tree Backdrop dies, I made him a fall-themed birthday card :)

The one thing I do worry about with using Lawn Fawn stamps is sometimes it's hard to come up with something original from using just one stamp set alone, because everyone has already thought of everything in sharing design inspirations! My card doesn't look much different than a few others out there who have combined the Leafy Tree Backdrops die and Jump for Joy... but what I decided to do a little different was add critters from Cheery Christmas to finish off the card!

Oh! And you can't really tell in the picture, I added some springy action to the little hedgehog whose jumping in the leaf pile :)

The squirrel was just stamped regularly, but for the bird, he's actually facing the opposite direction as the original stamp. To do this, I used the My Favorite Things Mirror Image stamp and some Versafine ink to stamp the bird image onto the mirror stamp, then pressed the mirror stamp onto some Bristol Smooth watercolor paper. I admit, the image did NOT come out perfectly at all -- maybe if I had conditioned the bird stamp a bit more it would have been better. Either way, I used my Copic Multiliner pen to outline the stamp, then I cut out one side of the bird, leaving a white border, and used the cut part to align the original
"? die on the back of the stamped image and die cut it backwards to leave a nice white border around the whole image without having to fussy cut the whole thing! I hate fussy cutting, so I'm glad I figured this out and that it worked because that was the only thing I had worried about with using mirror images is having to fussy cut them -- not anymore!

Andddd... just for fun, I'm going to enter this card into Simon Says Anything Goes Wednesday Card Challenge :)

Thanks for stopping by! Happy crafting :)
