Halloween Card with Interactive Door | Featuring Taylored Expressions
Halloween is just around the corner! Well, not quite yet, but it’s definitely on its way! When I saw Taylored Expressions’ latest Halloween release, I was thrilled to discover the DANCING SKELETONS! The possibilities with these fun designs are endless, and I couldn’t wait to dive in once they arrived.
I don’t always jump on the “new-new” products, but when something catches my eye that I don’t already have, I just can’t resist. I still have plenty of ideas to explore, and luckily, there’s more than a month to go until Halloween!
I love crafting Halloween cards with vibrant color combinations like orange, pink, green, purple, black, and teal—colors that go beyond the traditional and create a WOW factor when put together! For this card, I chose to use black, bright green, teal, and purple. I started by applying Twisted Citron from Ranger Distress Oxide Inks onto my Ranger Heavyweight Cardstock, then added Peacock Feathers next to the Twisted Citron, and finished with Wilted Violet beside the Peacock Feathers.
Once my blended panel was complete, I die-cut it with a curved rectangle die from my stash. Next, I cut a stitched rectangle from black cardstock and used Taylored Expressions’ Another Door Opens die set on it, ensuring enough space to cut out just one of the three doors fully— the other two served as decorative elements. I added purple brads from Doodlebug to the door handles for extra detail.
I then applied Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of the black cardstock and adhered it to the ink-blended panel, leaving the center door without adhesive so it could open. This entire piece was then attached to a rectangle die-cut from teal cardstock. For a finishing touch, I used Taylored Expressions’ Frayed Edge Stacklets die set and a rectangle die to create a border from bright green cardstock and adhered it over the teal layer. I then mounted the whole panel onto black cardstock.
For the finishing touches, I used Wow! Embossing Ink and Ranger Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder to stamp and emboss the skeleton and "Ah!" sentiments from the "Stayin' Alive" stamp set, then die-cut them with the coordinating dies and placed them accordingly. I stamped and embossed the "Stayin' Alive" sentiment directly onto the card. Additionally, I stamped "Boo!" from the Taylored Expressions Spooktactular Sentiments stamp set above the skeleton inside the door. Finally, I adhered the completed panel to an A2 card base and added a spray of Tsukineko Sparkle Sheer Shimmer Spritz to the entire card front for a sparkling effect.
I'd love to hear about the cards you've created or are planning to make this year!
