Card Sketches featuring Creative Expressions "Three Baubles" Stamp Set
THIS was a fun card. It was designed with fun colors but still had a Christmas theme despite the untraditional colors. I started this sketch by looking for examples online of how the "Three Baubles" stamp set was used. I came across this beautiful colorful card that I wanted to recreate - YES, you CAN recreate other people's cards! Sometimes that even helps you to come up with your own ideas in the process.
I actually found two examples I liked that I create sketches for but only created one because I loved it so much and wanted to make it twice. I will probably go back and fulfill the other sketch another time ;)
I decided to change up the card a bit to make it my own with a few extra details. First I wanted a sentiment, so I chose a "Merry Christmas" sentiment from another Creative Expressions stamp set that I had out. I also decided to include a perfectly imperfect border from Rubbernecker Stamps that I thought would accent this type of mixed media stamp set well.
For my colors, I chose to watercolor again, but because I wanted those vibrant colors, I decided to use Ken Oliver's Color Burst and Color Sparx. I ended up being able to match the colors perfectly! Looking at the bottles you wouldn't think so which is why I keep a swatch book full of all my color mediums swatched out so I can see their true colors on paper.
I attempted the card twice, and I don't know which I like better. They're pretty similar. The first one I tried to stay true to the coloring style of the original picture above. The second I went a little freehand keeping in mind the example card rather than looking at it. I love them both honestly. I kept this card as almost a 1 layer card. I did use a foam backing to pop-up the watercolor panel and I popped up the sentiment as well using thin foam tape, but overall the card is pretty flat, which will be great for mailing!
