SSS February 2017 Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa Card Kit | Love Card featuring Lawn Fawn

When I received the SSS February Card Kit, I could not WAIT to play with it :) Once again, it featured some new doodlebug papers, plus a great combination of colors with pink, blue, and brown. One thing that disappointment me about the kit, and seemed to disappoint others, was that when it was first introduced, the YouTube video said it would come with corrugated paper, which I was excited to use for dimension on my cards. They have now since edited the video to not include the advertising of the corrugated paper and did not list it as part of their supplies on the website YET the kit is still pictured WITH the corrugated paper. What did you think about this? I feel that SSS should have admit they had to change that and replace it with something else as they have the right to make "substitutions" but not just take something away all together.

Since my kit didn't come with this, I searched online where to get some. I found Michaels had a 12x12 corrugated sheet for only $1.99 and, with a coupon, it was totally worth the cost.

I started by pulling my favorite patterned paper from the kit. I ended up placing a baby wipe on top of it without realizing (!!!), so I had to cut it a certain way to use it, which is how I figured out the design of my card - didn't have many options! I also wanted to use the back of the patterned paper because that was my second favorite design (why couldn't they have been on TWO different papers?!). Really cute though. I also pulled the pink and blue cardstock papers and another patterned paper that had a tone-on-tone look but in blue. I was going to put the blue PP right where the pink papers met, but I decided to move it slightly to the left to give it a little more interest.

Because of the patterned paper, I knew I wanted to color a donut and put that on the card. I pulled Lawn Fawn's "Donut Worry" stamp set and decided I would also use the die from the kit to make a coffee cup. I used Evernote to search for a stamp that said "we go together like coffee and donuts," but all I found was "we go together" from Lawn Fawn's "Love 'n Breakfast" stamp set and decided that would be fine. I didn't really feel like making the rest of the sentiment using alphas. I figured the images would make it self-explanatory.

For this card, it was actually the first time using Copic markers on a card. I had just started my collection at the beginning of the month. I used Jennifer McGuire's Copic Marker information to help me figure out where to start. I basically got all the colors from the suggested color list, and I've slowly been adding some of the favorites and ones I think will work with what I already have. Don't ask which ones I used, because I was really just playing around when coloring my donut, lol - so I didn't keep track. It's definitely going to take some practice switching from the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to Copic Markers. I'll still use my zigs, but only when I want to do watercoloring :) I used colors that would match the paper, so I made the icing blue and pulled Stampin' Up!'s Melon Mambo ink and stamped the sprinkles onto the donut.

I die cut the coffee cup from a variety of papers: pink, white, black, and corrugated. I first die cut the cup from white paper. I then adhered that to some black cardstock and cut off the excess around the cup. This filled in the eyes and the arms. I then die cut the corrugated paper, removed the hands and heart, and cut just the middle coffee sleeve part. I adhered that to the white cup. Lastly, I die cut the cup from pink cardstock and only kept the heart, which I placed in the middle and adhered to the black paper. It took some work, but it was fun to put the little pieces together :)

I had a hard time trying to figure out the placement for the donut and coffee cup without leaving so much "pink space." I then decided I would bring in the same blue cardstock I would use for the matte to die cut a scallop circle from Sizzix Scallop Circle Die Set. It would help to bring attention to the images, and the scallop matched the icing on the donut.

I adhered everything together and finished off the card with some pink twine, Clear Wink of Stella, and Aquamarine Pretty Pink Posh Sequins in 4mm and 6mm.
