Simon Says: New Something | Love Window Card featuring Lawn Fawn

Okay, I am pretty excited about this one! As I stated in a previous blog entry, SSS's Wed Challenge is New Something. This Lawn Fawn Sealed with a Kiss is a new stamp and die set that I got during a promotion for buying $60 in gift cards (which I used later for a new release!). Because this set is new and new to me, I wanted to give it a go and create a card for the challenge.

Anyway, so I stamped out the seals and the sheet of ice, but I didn't end up using it - didn't feel like creating an ocean for my scene. Instead, I wanted to create a moonlit sky using distress inks, with my seals on snowdrifts sharing a sweet kiss :D I colored the seals using my Kuratake Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. I used 002 Warm Gray and 901 Gray Tint, then I used a water brush to blend out the colors.

After coloring and die cutting my seals, I began to come up with my scene. I used Sizzix Circle dies to cut out a moon, and used removable adhesive to adhere it to the top right-hand corner of a piece of 5.5x4.25 Ranger Watercolor Paper. I then began with Broken China distress ink to blend out around the moon. I then switched to Chipped Sapphire distress ink and blended out from the lower right-hand corner towards the moon, then blended the two colors together until there was a smooth transition between the two. This is how I got the moon glow look I wanted!

For my scenery, I wanted someplace for my seals to sit, so I created some snow drifts using Lawn Fawn's Stitched Hill Borders dies, and I created some snow-topped icebergs/mountains (whatever you want to call them, lol) using Mama Elephant's Snow Capped Mountains die. For the icebergs/mountains, I wanted to create some shading, so again, I used my Zig markers, but in cooler colors for a non-living thing. I used 009 Cool Gray and 091 Light Gray, then I used a water brush to blend out the colors.

Once I created my scenery and adhered it down to my card, I added my seals to the scene, and stamped and die cut the "mwah" speech bubble from the same stamp set.

At this point, I felt my card was good enough, BUT I needed a sentiment! The dilemma I had was that I spent a lot of time on my moonlit night sky that I didn't want to cover it up completely. I first thought of using some vellum to keep the sentiment see-through, but then I would have to adhere it flat to the card, and I didn't want to do that. SOMEHOW, I don't know how, I thought to use one of Pretty Pink Posh's Peekaboo dies. I could still create a vellum sentiment, but add some dimension with a little interactive window.

I stamped the sentiment "I love you" from My Favorite Things' Love You More (now retired) stamp set onto my vellum. I then die cut a window from some CTMH White Daisy Cardstock. I adhered the window to the vellum, and cut the excess vellum from around the edge of the window. I was then able to adhere the sentiment using adhesive only on the back of the window frame. Thus, when you open the window, you see the sentiment and can see the background behind that!

I debated what I wanted written on the outside of the window. I thought about using the "Sealed with a Kiss" sentiment from the stamp set I used for the seals, but I wanted something simple as the inside sentiment already had a pretty font. I decided to keep it basic and pulled my Lawn Fawn Sprinkled with Joy stamp set, then stamped "Open Me" onto some Stampin' Up! Smoky Slate paper. I die cut that using the Everyday and Extra Sentiment Banners from Lawn Fawn and adhered it to the top of the window. Now the recipient of the card will know to open the window and see the real sentiment inside :)

I finished the card off with some Clear Wink of Stella on the snow caps and snow drifts to give the look of sparkling snow. This was such a fun card to create with using lots of new products and new products for me, as well as using some new techniques I haven't tried yet and loved them!
