Last year around this time, I purchased a Cinco de Mayo stamp set and journaling card set from Studio Calico. Once I received it, I paired the journaling cards with some Close To My Heart papers; Hollyhock, Sunset, Fern, and Lagoon. I made this into a mini card kit, made 1 or 2 cards from it, and stored the leftover supplies together with the rest of my card kits.
On Cinco de Mayo, Thursday, I was off work and decided that I wanted to take some time to make Cinco de Mayo themed cards, but not necessarily for the Cinco de Mayo holiday. Instead, I focused on other sentiments and occasions like Hello, Thanks and Birthday.
I'm in love with the Mexican culture and the colors often associated with it. They don't coordinate together very well, but when you put them all together (like in a sombrero on piñata), they just work, so I couldn't wait to make some cards with this kit :) Below is a slideshow of the cards I came up with.
Additionally, after I created the last card, I wanted to recreate it using a camera and turning it into a birthday card (with an actual birthday sentiment). I also added a few fun features...
... such as glossy accents to the camera lens to make it look like glass...
AND a red Chibitronics light to make the card interactive! When you press the sentiment, the red autofocus light on the camera glows red!
Way cool, right?! I'm so excited how well it came out. Unfortunately, I do NOT have a video showing the process of this card (or any of these cards). I've been really bad at turning the camera on before I get crafting, whether I think the card will make a great video or not. I plan to do a similar card using the same effect in the future and record the process for you all to see :)
Also, I know it's a stretch, but I am submitting my light-up card to Freshly Made Sketches #235!
Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting!
